"Break Every Yoke" Isaiah 58:6 KADEISH
The world around us is not normal, don't let it fool you into believing otherwise I understood this in theory, before coming to Egypt, but the more that the reality of ancient Egypt blends with the world that still exists here, the more clear it becomes that the intention of The Exodus has failed to materialize, in exactly the same way as the reality of …
I would love to share some pages from Ben Hecht on the meaning of the Bible as a rebellion against Systems, Governments and Cultures that extinguish the divine personal spirit of human individuals in the service of something else.
If there are Jewish writings from the post-Biblical period still to be canonized, his will definitely be among them.
He was a Hollywood movie writer who woke up to reality during the Holocaust and (at nearly 50 years old!) discovered some of the most crucial underlying truths about Society and how The Bible was an attempt to counter them.
This from a guy who had no religious knowledge or interest before.
But despite the fact that he was (paid and accoladed as) the most entertaining writer of his day what he has to say is so simple and true that it's hard to understand him.
After all, he says we are all suicidal fools and scoundrels.
That's a tough pill to swallow. Had he only have attacked “liberalism”, “conservativism”, “christianity”, “jews” or any other single demographic he would have remained a celebrated celebrity (despite having been cancelled by Hollywood - and Great Britain - for being too loud about the inconvenient Holocaust then ongoing).
But he spoke truth. At himself, at me, at you, and at the entire structure of society as it exists. (In the 60s he made additional enemies by attacking the ruling leadership of Israel and the pathetic huddled masses of Jews who meekly accepted them.)

"Break Every Yoke" Isaiah 58:6 KARPAS
But first I have to ask, does anybody understand that our society is the same one that Moses opposed? That Amos fulminated against? That Jeremiah cursed? That Isaiah mocked? We pretend it's otherwise by imagining that the Jews of Egypt were turned into nothing but beasts of burden.
