The article you're about to read was written and published by Ben Hecht in 1940. After Hitler's non-aggression pact with Stalin the smart money was on the success of Hitler's 1,000 Year Reich.

Ben Hecht knew otherwise.

And said so.

Prophets are rare in this world and mankind would be wise to heed them but, to date, they never have.

Ben Hecht himself was cancelled by Hollywood (where he had been the highest paid screenwriter in history) and this article was buried so deep that the volume of his collected works which includes this photo and article is to be found nowhere but in half a dozen annex libraries around the world.

If you want to know why the Germans will lose the war look at the picture above. It is a picture of the German soul at play.

Five German aviators the fifth one is hopping about happily with his camera-have lassoed a Jew in the streets of Warsaw and are diverting themselves. The thin-faced German officer at the left is the leader of this group of merrymakers. Solemnly and with a convulsing pretense of politeness he is shaving his cornered Jew. He is using a penknife for the task. As a matter of fact he isn't really shaving the Jew. He is plucking his whiskers out with his penknife and his thumb as you might pluck chicken feathers from a dead chicken.

If you are wise you will cut out this picture and put it away. And you can write the caption under it now: "These were once conquerors."

The caption will grow more and more ironic
