Purim 2025!* The Day We Jews Celebrate Rabba's Awesome Decapitation of Rav Zeira! 🥳
*Actually 5950 out of 6000, but who cares!
After Purim you can look up the story and kler (suffer-think) about its meaning (Megilla 7b). On Purim we have higher lives to fulfill! 1
Purim is indescribable.
So I won't bother describing it.
Below are videos from our two most recent Purims.
I started Substack ON PURIM exactly 2 years ago when I had only one awesome subscriber, Leah Weisshaar née Ganz. And on Purim 2023 I posted and substacked the following 2 videos.
Don't share the top one with Elon. I don't think he’d get it. 😂
Last year, freshly arrived in Egypt, I shared the following two videos. Each more substantial that my first year’s tepid introduction.
The first video is our full reading of the megillah (The Book of Esther) which is required to be read or heard on Purim so if you can not hear the Megilla read live, get the mitzvah by watching this video!
The next video can and does speak for itself.
I had already fulfilled all 4 mitzvos of Purim (Megilla, Meal, Give Food to Friends, Give money to The Needy) but I resolved to try and fulfill this mitzvot with “members of the tribe” as well.
So, being the only public Jew in Egypt, I took a cab to the Israeli Embassy in Cairo.
No alcohol or other inebriants can be blamed for my choices or for the following video.
It being Ramadan in Cairo, inebriants were Not Available, and I call God to Witness that the credit is all mine. Mine, the Holy of Holy Days itself, and My Dear Monetary Supporters/Subscribers who enabled me.
May you lovely people be blessed!
Hint: If you know the history of these individuals, it's likely they hardly, if ever, interacted. A point that the story’s teller and audience knew. His audience also knew their respective views and moods on Judaism and would have understood the lessons inherent in this humorous Purim Tale. But right now - I don't know if it happened and I don't care! I think it's beautiful.
